adelphi-bf-b
Bon Fire Wallpaper - B
The enigmatic nature of this design, though created over 200 years ago, hints of more modern sensibilities. Printed in an assertive colorway, it was produced by the French company Manufacture Bon in the late 18th century. The company of Richard Bon - or Jean Richard Bon - was responsible for a number of well documented, graphic patterns.
One full size sample of this pattern, unused and therefore intensely colored is in the Adelphi collection. A second document, in the same colorway, resides in the collection of the RISD Museum, in Providence, Rhode Island. Our reproduction has been made possible with the generous support of that Museum, in conjunction with their exhibition The Art of French Wallpaper Design.
As is the case with some early patterns, the side to side match is rather approximate. When installing, it is best to trim approximately 1/16th to 1/8th inch into the pattern on both sides; not doing so will result in a perceptible open gap. Once installed, the absence of a small portion of the pattern will not be noticeable.
