The Kapok tree bears a white fluffy seed that is harvested and used locally to stuff mattresses. The Dagaaba call it the cotton tree, although there’s no actual relationship between the tree and the cotton plants also grown and harvested in northern Ghana.
All fabrics are 100% carbon-neutral cotton, grown under the 'Cotton made in Africa' initiative administered by the Aid for Trade Foundation, headquartered in Hamburg. All our fabrics have passed 40,000 rubs on the Martindale test, and have passed the UK flammability ‘cigarette test’ (BS5852:Part 1:1979:Source 0).
