The Rose and Sprig Border was found in an abandoned tavern in Maine along with Adelphi’s Moses Grant Stripe. The pattern is typical of the narrow borders used at the end of the 18th and early-19th centuries. They were placed at every margin, including window and door architrave moldings, as well as at the ceiling, chair rail and baseboard.
On the original document the leaves were printed with a green varnish rather than with distemper paint. This is due to the fact that some green pigments of the time tended to fade in the chalk based medium. Adelphi is able to produce this pattern with either varnish or distemper, depending on the specific installation requirements.
